TCS launches youth employment program, employees send 1,100 applications

India’s largest software company, Tata Consultancy Services, has launched its Youth Employment Program (YEP) to help rebuild the livelihoods of victims of the Covid-19 pandemic and provide employment opportunities. This is the company’s flagship CSR program aimed at empowering youth, rural college women, unemployed graduates, especially those from socially and economically disadvantaged sectors.

As part of this program, TCS has included courses focusing on quantitative aptitude, business communication skills, programming, and field skills.

“TCS trains the young participants specifically on quantitative aptitude, business communication skills, programming and field skills. After receiving this specialized training and mentoring, we will also help them find employment opportunities.” , TCS said in a statement.

So far, the company has received 1,384 applications, which are supported by more than 700 TCS associates on their learning and employment journey. More than 80% of the candidates come from the states of Maharashtra, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.

“TCS received more than 1,300 applications, of which more than 85% were either friends or relatives of employees,” the company added.

TCS said more than 4,900 direct students have benefited from its youth program while under the non-IT youth employment program 9,200 students and 56 external trainers and professionals have been trained.

He said 1,24,000 young people have been trained since its inception. While 24,800 people have found employment in private and public companies including 13,800 in TCS to date.

TCS also offers a free online course – “TCS iON Career Edge” – for young professionals. This is a 15-day course that helps job seekers improve their basic employability skills.

The course covers key behavioral, communication, and basic accounting and artificial intelligence skills. The course is taught in 14 modules. Each module lasts 1 to 2 hours and includes videos, presentations, reading material, webinars recorded by TCS experts.
