The centrally managed IT labs are open

The UIC computer labs managed centrally by the Center for the Promotion of Educational Excellence (CATE) have reopened after more than a year of inactivity.

The centrally managed laboratories provide 533 computer stations distributed throughout the university. Signage in laboratories indicates the current approved occupancy and instructs laboratory users to use hand sanitizer and wipe down equipment after each use. Laboratories are cleaned every morning and have hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes. EHSO will also regularly inspect laboratories to ensure they meet requirements.

If you see a closed lab or notice that hand sanitizer and / or cleaning wipes are missing or running out in a lab, please let us know by contacting us at LTS@uic.edu or 3-0003 option 1.

If you are teaching in one of the centrally managed computer labs and need specific software installed, please submit a request using the software installation form.

Additionally, there are two options for students regarding IT needs that will continue to be offered during the fall semester:

  1. The Virtual Computer Lab offers UIC students, faculty and staff access to specialized software from their own devices. Students and instructors can connect to the Virtual Computer Lab using any computer with Internet access or through a mobile device.
  2. Students attending classes this fall who require a laptop and / or internet access can apply for a long-term laptop and / or hotspot equipment loan through our program. long-term COVID-19 equipment loan.
